This Sunday we welcome Rev. Steve Edington to the pulpit with his message titled Waiting For…An Advent Reflection.
Rev. Steve says:
I’m playing a little “catch up ball” here as we are well in to the Season of Advent.
I’ll be using Samuel Beckett’s play “Waiting for Godot” as a way of sharing Advent thoughts, as it points up the irony of waiting and expectation. We all need an element of expectation in our lives; just as we all know of things we must, of necessity, wait for. At the same time, to live by waiting and expectation alone is completely immobilizing—as Beckett’s characters in “Godot”, Vladimir and Estragon, demonstrate. The challenge is to live in the tension between expectation and action.
We’ll also do a quick “trip around the bases” on the four themes of the Christian Advent: Joy, Hope, Peace, and Love. These deeply felt human needs actually transcend any one faith tradition, as they represent universal needs and wants that we all seek after.
