As those who have heard some of my earlier sermons already know, I was raised in a conservative Baptist setting where The Bible was the divinely inspired “Word of God.” Part of my spiritual journey included the rejection of that idea, but also led to my appreciating The Bible as a human document with some very inspiring, along with some very disturbing, passages and stories. I’ll share some of that journey today, along with my understanding of what a “Biblical value” is, seeing as how the term is often invoked into today’s political climate from the religious right.
